Rain and snow have been very prevalent this winter all across the United States.  Often times when it is gray outside, we as homeowners tend to bring it inside unintentionally on our shoes or umbrellas, as well as children and pets coming in and out throughout the day.  This often ruins the flooring at the entranceways of your home, and can sometimes create the perfect slippery place for an accident to happen.  Prevent this from happening by placing rugs and door mats at each entrance and exit way.  This will help to reduce the dirt and moisture being tracked in.  It is also a good idea to remove your shoes at the door because the salt that is used this time of year to prevent slips and falls can damage a hardwood floor, and it is often difficult to repair.  Once you have the rugs in place, be sure to clean them every so often so that they do not become the mess that you are trying to keep out of your home.  Humidity levels also increase on rainy and snowy days.  Use a dehumidifier to remove some of the humidity out of the air, and this will keep your hardwood from absorbing any unnecessary moisture.
